was held 19-20 March 2005 and aims to offer
the
people of
the south
east a taste of Irish music, dance and song. It was presented
throughout the
town of Crawley, West Sussex and culminated in the 2nd Annual Crawley
St Patrick's Parade.
In addition to the
parade, a number of additional
events were staged throughout the area such as dance
demonstrations in the town centre, following the Parade and an evening
of story, dance and music. The events were organised by the Celtic and
Irish Cultural Society in association with Crawley Borough Council.
Saturday 19th March 2005 - "Wakin' of Saint Patrick"
Sponsored by Coinford
Construction
The night hosted was hoted by television and west-end actor, Donal Cox
and involved storytelling, a themed Irish dance performance telling
the story of St Patrick and live music. Donal introduced dance routines
from the
O'Brien School of
Irish Dancing and delivered excepts from a number of the
writings of
Saint Patrick as well as additional material.
Those of us that have heard the stories of "a wake" may think of it as
a hooley with singing and dancing. That is what we we wanted it to be!
A
night of singing, dancing and fun. All proceeds went to Saint
Catherine's Hospice and additional local charities.

Sunday 20th March 2005 - Saint Patricks Parade 2005
Sponsored by Cappagh Group
Crawley was the venue for its second annual Saint Patrick's Parade.
Participants from throughout the southeast of England converged at its
Rail Station to begin a prearranged route around the town ending in the
High Street.
Participants from throughout the community came out to support the
event including Polish Bikers raising that Nations flag. The O'Brien
School, who danced for Saturday's benefit at the Railway Club, put out
an impressive float with Saint Patrick included and the Sussex Borders
Motor Club provided additional classic vehicles for the parade. At the
same time, West Sussex and New York fire-fighters marched side by side.
The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society would like to thank everyone who
participated in the events over the weekend and especially Sussex
Police and Crawley Borough Council. Without the support of the local
community such events would not be possible.
