Weary Soles: Charity Walk for Kasisi Orphans
Posted under category: All NewsPublished by David Nolan
Staff and friends of Nugent Group Ltd (of Handcross, West Sussex) were somehow persuaded by Len Nugent to take part in a charity walk over Good Friday and Easter Saturday from London to Brighton in aid of the Kasisi Children’s Home in Zambia.
Len Nugent, Andy Williams and Andy Wynn (Nugent Group), Mike Sullivan (Polypipe) and Feargal Tierney (Clancey Scaffolding) set off from Big Ben at 7:15am to cover 30 miles a day to Brighton Pier.
Day one finished at Horley with most, if not, all nursing blistered feet and aching joints after a relatively sunny and hot day pounding the tarmac. Surprisingly all were fit and ready, if not slightly anxious for the next 35 mile day walk which although more rural, incorporated the infamous Ditchling Beacon.
The second day was, as expected, a more gruelling experience. The team, however, made it to the glorious setting of Brighton Pier between 3.00 and 4.00pm on Saturday.
A few personal battles with ones own will were had on the latter part of day 2 but once finished the feeling of achievement, not to mention the money raised for essential building work for the Kassisi Orphanage in Zambia, Africa, was overwhelming.
Thanks to all who gave up their time and considerable efforts including the walkers and Mark Schneidau (Nugent Group) who provided constant roadside back up of food and water over the 2 days.
For the foreseeable future Len Nugent has been asked to keep any challenging physical tasks to himself.
