STONES IN HIS POCKETS at IFIELD BARN THEATRE

Continuing with the Celtic and Irish Cultural Society’s remit to promote the best there is in our culture why not pop along to the picturesque Ifield Barn Theatre for a very unique experience.  From Wednesday 18th May, for 4 nights only Ifield Barn Theatre hosts the much acclaimed play STONES IN HIS POCKETS by Marie Jones.

The drama is set in a rural town in County Kerry Ireland that is overrun by a Hollywood film crew.

The story centres on Charlie Conlon and Jake Quinn, who, like much of the town, are employed as extras for the filming. Much of the comedy of the play is derived from the efforts of the production crew to create the proper “Irish feel”, a romanticized notion that often conflicts with the reality of daily life, and that it calls upon the cast of two to perform all 15 characters (men and women), often switching gender and voice with swift dexterity and the absolute bare minimum of costume changes – a hat here, a jacket there.

Certainly a show not to be missed.

All productions start at 8.00pmTicket prices are £8.00 IBTS members £6.00
Tickets are on sale 5 weeks before the show

‘AND THERE’S MORE’

During the intermission we are happy to announce that Ciaróg will keep us entertained with some Irish traditional music

Ciaróg are Simon Hurdman and Blanche May.  Simon is a primary school teacher based in Crawley and plays guitar, banjo, mandolin, bouzouki and mandola and has been a musician since his teens.  Blanche is a school science technician living near Haywards Heath and  plays the Irish whistle, wooden flute, bodhrán and African djembe.

Ciaróg play mostly contemporary and traditional Irish music, but they are also influenced by traditional English tunes and by Celtic music from other countries.  They perform mainly in the mid-Sussex district.
