SECOND ST PATRICK’S WEEKEND HELD

Second Annual St Patrick's ParadeCrawley’s second Saint Patrick’s Weekend (19-20 March 2005) saw large crowds line the streets of Crawley as it concluded with the Saint Patrick’s Parade. Hundreds took part in the event and over a thousand looked on as the parade route criss-crossed its way through Crawley.

Saturday night played host to the Wake’n of Saint Patrick concert, hosted by West End actor, Donal Cox. The O’Brien School of Irish Dancing provided the entertainment in the form of a re-enactment of the story of Saint Patrick. The event went long into the evening with “The Boys from the Shannan Valley” performing traditional and contemporary Irish music.

The 2005 St. Patrick’s Weekend has set the benchmark for what will follow in the future. The parade concluded with dance demonstrations from the Mullins School of Irish Dancing and performances from the Gatwick Caledonians and the Dartford District pipe bands. It was wonderful weather, unlike the 2004 event where the rain showered down.

The weekend was all thanks to sponsorship from Coinford Construction, Cappagh Group and L F Nugent Group and the strong commitment to it shown by Sussex Police and Crawley Borough Council.
