Diaspora Voice – reminder to share your opinion in the Irish Constitutional Convention
Convention on the Constitution.
The Convention on the Constitution is a new venture in participative democracy in Ireland tasked with considering certain aspects of the Constitution to ensure that it is fully equipped for the 21st Century and making recommendations to the Oireachtas on future amendments to be put to the people in referendums.
On 16-17 February in Dublin, sixty-six citizen members and thirty-three TDs and senators hear evidence, discuss and make recommendations on modernising the 1937 Constitution. This month the Convention focus is on women in Irish society – the ‘role of women’ and ‘women in politics’.
Convention chair, Tom Arnold is enthusiastic to involve the Irish abroad. As primary Member contact for your organisation we are encouraging the Irish community in Britain to get involved, share your opinions and spread the word amongst your local communities about the Convention.
You can:
* read all about the work of the Convention
* look at submissions so far on the next debate this coming weekend on women
