Crawley Celebrate Reaching the 5th Round of the FA CUP

Crawley Town beat Torquay, surviving with 10-men, to reach the next round with a 1-0 win over the home team.

Crawley will play Manchester United away on Saturday 19 February for their chance to reach the quarter finals.

Congratulations and best wishes to manager Steve Evans and the rest of the team. Best Luck to the team and all of the season tickets who will venture up the M6 to Old Trafford for the big day.

It’ll be a great day for the supporters of Crawley Town which includes many Crawley Irish.  This is the first time in 17 years that a non-league side has reached this far in the competition and, according to WikiPedia, the second time Crawley have reached this far in the cup. I await clarification on this!

Steve Evans and his team have shown great confidence in this year’s FA Cup campaign with wins over championship and league teams and this will be the biggest test, of course. Away to Manchester United. Whilst Evans has all the confidence in his team, which is shared by the people of Crawley, it will certainly be a great day for the town.

This isn’t the first time Crawley have enjoyed a big day in the FA Cup, I remember venturing down with the family to Brighton about twenty years ago to see The Reds play the SeaGulls at the Goldstone Ground. That was a great day but it’ll be nothing compared what awaits at Old Trafford.

So I’ll be looking forward to a potential Quarter-Final clash with Brighton, who will play Stoke in the 5th Round too. Lets hope the gods look down on us and the next draw is kind too.

Actually, who am I kidding? I’d quite like a trip to the Emirates Stadium in the Quarter Finals.

Best of luck from all of the Irish community in Crawley.
