Schools Programme: Sport / Art / Story Telling

SchoolsVarious Venues, Crawley
Start: Various - Cost: Free (Students Only)

The Schools Programme is an exciting new strand of the Crawley Fleadh. The team will go to a number of senior and junior schools throughout Crawley with Sport, Art and Fairytales on the menu. Children of all ages, genders and cultures will have something to enjoy.

Senior Schools

Secondary school children and teenagers will receive experienced coaching from London Board GAA and learn more about Gaelic Football and Europe's oldest field sport, Hurling. Gaelic Games are fast moving and fun and the coaching will focus on the skills of benefit to young players of any sport - boys and girls. The Fleadh will be the first time these sports, which feature on the National Curriculum, have ever been taught at schools in Crawley.

Elsewhere, the Celtic Art Workshop provides children with an ideal opportunity to understand the intricacies of the Celtic knot, cross or weave and create a masterpiece all of their own. The workshop provides an exploration of Celtic Art and its use in contemporary society including popular music, fashion, design and architecture. Young people aged 11 upwards will be able to create a wire-work and tissue sculpture to create their own piece of Celtic Art to take home.

Junior Schools

For the younger pupils, Kate Corkery will introduce the children to the fantastic world of Irish story telling tradition.

The stories will excite and entrance listeners with traditional folk stories of fairies and leprechauns. These stories, were passed down in the oratory tradition long before the written word was developed.

Listen and wonder...
