Where is the Crawley Irish Festival?

The 10th Annual Crawley Irish Festival (28 August 2005) takes place at Southgate Playing Fields, Southgate Avenue, Crawley, West Sussex from 12.00pm

By Train:
There are regular services to Three Bridges and Crawley rail stations. Most trains on the London-Brighton line stop at Three Bridges where you can change for Crawley or take a taxi to Southgate Playing Fields. Alternatively, direct trains to Crawley are available from London Victoria/London Bridge and from most stations in West Sussex.
By Bus:
Buses to Crawley Town Centre will take you to Crawley rail station.
By Car:
Limited Parking Available (at a charge). Exit at either J10 or J11 M23 and follow directions for the Town Centre. The Crawley Irish Festival site is located on the A2004.
By Foot (from Crawley Train Station/Town Centre):
From main exit, turn right. Walk to end of road (300 yrds). Turn right again. The festival site is 300yrds on the left.

Who organises the Crawley Irish Festival?

The Crawley Irish Festival is organised by the Celtic and Irish Cultural Society, Crawley with local government support and community sponsors. [more]

Is there disabled access?

All acess to the venue is via ramp. The event takes place over a large grassed area that is freshly cut prior to the festival so mobility for wheelchair visitors should be as it is on freshly mowed grass. In addition, disabled toilets are provided at the venue. However, it should be noted that the main entrance might be considered steep for some visitors with mobility problems and they may need minor assistance.

How do I enter the Open Dance Competition?

The competition is for experienced Irish Dancers. Individuals can enter on the day from 12.00pm. There is much interest in this event and you are encouraged to be as prompt as possible to be able to ensure participation.

Irish dancers at An Coimisiún schools should check with An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha to confirm if they can participate.

The open dance competition is sponsored by Accurate Construction and is open to all Irish dancers irrespective of School membership. This year's event will be organised by Andromeda Edmonds - she is contactable by telephone on 07961 230 338.

Is there a licensed bar?

Yes, serving (at least) stout, lager, wine and soft drinks.

Is food available?

Yes, a number of hot and cold food stands will be present at the venue.

What's available for children?

There will be a childrens play area on site and entertainers [tbc] will be on hand.

Who benefits financially from the Crawley Irish Festival?

The Crawley Irish Festival is a not-for-profit event that hopes to entertain whilst demonstrating aspects of Irish culture.

Money raised at the festival pays associated costs involved organising the event. This includes liability insurance, public notices, hire of the venue, waste disposal/clean-up, hire of bands and hire of stages/tents/marques.

"Profits" from the Crawley Irish Festival funds additional CICS projects (notably the Saint Patrick's Weekend - a largely free event but where liability insurance and other expenditure must still be paid). Any additional money is donated to Saint Catherine's Hospice and Crawley Schools.

Are there photos available from previous Crawley Irish Festivals?
