The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society organises a number of events throughout the year including the Crawley Irish Festival, Crawley’s Saint Patrick’s Festivities and the Crawley Fleadh.

Aims of the Society:

• To promote knowledge of Celtic culture, arts, music and sport
• To increase awareness of the role of Irish immigration in developing the local economy
• To co-operate with organisations to further our objectives
• To establish events throughout the year
• To support and enrich cultural activities organised in the region
• To entertain, to inform and to support

Background – Our Role, Your Role

The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society aims to establish and support Celtic events in the southeast of England. The committee’s background was in the organisation of previous Irish Festivals. It was the objective of the society’s foundation to extend those events.

We need the support of the local community to enable this to happen and to maintain celebrations that happen throughout the year. We would especially welcome people who might wish to assist in the organisation of Scottish and Welsh events. If you would like to participate and organise events of Celtic origin and tradition please join us.

We receive financial support from local business, Tourism Ireland and Irish Government funding for the Irish abroad. In 2006, we began to receive funding from West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council.

Society History

The Celtic and Irish Cultural Society was launched on 15 January 2004 to help foster Celtic cultural heritage and arts in the heart of England’s southeast. His Worship, the then Mayor of Crawley, Brian Quinn, expressed his delight at being part of the launch.

The Society was formed from the existing Crawley Irish Festival organisers to establish new cultural events in Crawley, West Sussex and the surrounding areas.

Mr Mayor led the opening address and welcomed business and community leaders to the event. Also present were former mayor, Councillor Christopher Mullins, and fellow representatives from Crawley Borough Council and the Hawth Theatre.
